Join us as we welcome local author Rand Burkert for a special event for children & families on Saturday November 11th from 2-3 pm at Titcomb's Bookshop. Burkert will be reading his new book Star Stuff as a storytime, host a sing-along, and do a book signing. After the storytime, we will also have a very special guest joining us - Spencer - a real live miniature donkey (from Blazing Saddles Pony Parties & Petting Zoo in Fairhaven)! This event is great for families with kids of all ages!
ABOUT THE BOOK
An original, out-of-this-world fable about friendship, teamwork, and persistence, illustrated by double Caldecott Medalist Chris Raschka.
It’s up to Giovanni and Lorenzo, Sky Repair Specialists, to fill the sky with stars. One night, on the job, Lorenzo gets stuck in a nebula! Giovanni calls out for help to the constellations....
Find out what it will take to rescue his friend in this imaginative story featuring Chris Raschka’s brilliant, luminescent illustrations.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rand Burkert is a Wisconsin-born "washashore" on Cape Cod. He studied English Literature at Yale University, but chose to plunge into the world of organic farming at mid-life. He has farmed in Umbria, Italy, where he and his wife Manuela brought up two sons, Francesco and Roberto. As a guitar player and folksinger, he is author of a CD of music for children based on Aesop Fables, "Mouse and Lion," and a picture book of the same name. He has lived full time in Cape Cod for ten years, in the Town of Orleans, where he is a co-founder of Food Forest Initiative, a volunteer organization which creates public gardens with native food producing plants. Currently as teacher of "Greenhouse" at Nauset Public Schools, he involves teens in growing food and creating wildflower gardens for bumblebees, butterflies and birds. "Star Stuff", his second book for children, is about a farmer and his donkey who wander among stars they have helped to create. Briefly shaken by an unfortunate incident, they find unexpected kindness in the constellations.
