Help us reach our goal of putting 500 books into the backpacks of all 4th grade students at Barnstable United Elementary by June 3rd!
About the Barstable Ally Group:
The Barnstable Ally Group is a local organization whose mission is to uplift marginalized people and to assist in the battle against racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, xenophobia, anti-semitism, Islamophobia, and all forms of discrimination and bias. They seek to educate and empower allies that will change the world. They serve as a hub of resources for children and adults in our community, focusing on the eradication of systemic racism and descrimination. They recognize that there is a critical need to ensure that voices, stories, histories, and cultures of marginalized groups are heard, taught, and seen to promote change. The Barnstable Ally Group also creates, shares, and supports resources in our schools and communities in order to become a better ally. Their hope is to cultivate a safe space for marginalized people and allies to connect.
Book Drive Details:
Last year we had over 600 books donated that went directly to every student at Hyannis West Elementary. Additional books went to students at BCIS and newly registered students in Barnstable Public Schools. This year we hope to give a book to every 4th grade student at the Barnstable United Elementary School. We recognize the need for all students to have the opportunity to identify with, make connections with, and read about characters of color and books with diverse themes. It is our hope that with your donation, students of color and other marginalized groups will more deeply engage with the literature they are reading, all while strengthening a positive cultural identity in the process.
While we will gladly accept book donations at any time, we kindly ask that donations arrive by Friday, June 3, 2022. This will allow us to go through the donations, create bundles and have them ready to go into backpacks in our schools before the end of the school year!
If you order through Titcomb's Bookshop, we will deliver the books to the school. You can also mail or drop off books to:
