Titcomb’s Bookshop has been a family-owned Cape Cod landmark for over 38 years. Ralph and Nancy Titcomb founded the Bookshop when they moved to East Sandwich in 1969, but their interest in antiquarian books began in Connecticut. The Titcomb’s purchased a house in Connecticut that had not been lived in for over 15 years. The detached barn on the property had not been used by the prior owners (a mother and daughter who were 102 and 82 years old respectively) for 10 years before that! As the couples 8 children began to explore the property, they discovered some rare papers and books in the barn that the prior owners did not want. Some of these papers and books were from the 1600’s. The Titcomb’s started a mail order catalog to sell some of the books and their business blossomed from there. The current Titcomb’s Bookshop is attached to the original 1790, three-quarter Cape style home. The Bookshop building was built in 1989 by 2 of the Titcomb’s sons (Paul and Ted Titcomb). Titcomb’s Bookshop continue to thrive as a family business with eldest daughter Vicky Uminowicz now managing the business. |
